About the author

Portrait and street life photographer based in Lahore, Pakistan.

Interview with the winner

Who are you?

I’m from Lahore, Pakistan, and I currently reside there. I’m mainly interested in photography as it is my passion, and I love playing football as well since childhood. My aspiration is to aid people through my work and uncover the stories of those regions and individuals who are unable to advocate for themselves. I aim to become their voice.

How would you define your style?

My style is “people life photography” where I aim to capture the raw and genuine emotions of everyday individuals. I enjoy listening to their stories and understanding the emotions they carry, which becomes the foundation of my expression. I have learned a great deal from Sir Abdul Rehman.

Tell us about your winning creation.

I remember it was dawn, and the railway station was filled with an anxious silence. In the midst of it, I noticed a man sitting alone in the train cabin, relishing his solitude. He transformed that silence into a peaceful ambiance. Capturing such a moment becomes challenging when you are aware it is a public space. However, my dedication and unwavering patience for finding the perfect subject make me consider going for it.

Why do you like Agora Awards?

Agora is a platform that has provided opportunities and has helped numerous photographers gain worldwide recognition. I am immensely grateful for the voting system and the merit-based competitions it offers.

About the author
Photographer and student based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Interview with the winner
Who are you?

I’m Tanvir Ahmed, and I reside in Lakshmipur, a district in Bangladesh. I have a profound passion for photography because it allows me to capture and create something entirely new. Photography has always held a special place in my heart, and it continues to inspire me.

How would you define your style?

Photography holds a special place in my heart as it allows me to express myself artistically. I am particularly drawn to the works of many talented photographers in Bangladesh, including Abdulmomin. Moreover, my cousin, Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, has been a constant source of motivation and encouragement for me in pursuing my passion for photography.

Tell us about your winning creation.

I captured this photograph of myself in Mymensingh, a division of Bangladesh that I visited during winter. During my time there, I had the opportunity to embark on a train journey along a track built over a river. The surroundings were enveloped in a captivating blanket of fog, adding to the mystical ambiance of the place. Despite the weather conditions, I was fortunate enough to come across a lone individual walking along the road. It was in that serendipitous moment that I captured this striking image.

Why do you like Agora Awards?

I highly recommend checking out Agora, as it is undoubtedly the most exceptional photography community I have ever come across. The insightful perspectives on photography, particularly from this platform, have been a constant source of inspiration for me.

Can I participate several times in an Award?
Yes, you can participate as many times as you want. However, you will have to use credits to upload more than one creation or wait until the indicated time when the first participation process is over to participate again. We have implemented this method to improve the quality of the participating works, it's an effective way to pre-curate content while providing opportunities for everyone.
How are the finalists chosen
Agora's curators' team chooses the finalist works from among all the participating creations. To make this selection, we take into account several criteria, such as quality, diversity, originality, beauty, the concept behind the creation, the message it conveys, technique, artistic quality, difficulty, social-political-cultural impact, the context and moment of creation, the global interest it has, the cultural value, the author's work, and other specific elements of each Award.
How do I know if I'm a finalist?
If Agora's curator team chooses you among the 25 finalists, you will receive an email from us informing you of this.
What are the prizes?
All awards have two prizes: People’s Prize (whose winner is chosen by Agora users from all over the world) and Jury’s Prize (whose winner is selected by a professional jury specialized in the theme of the award). Each award has a specific prize, which you will find in the information about each award.
How do the People’s Prize voting rounds work?
Once Agora's curator team selects the 25 finalists, they will show them to the public in 5 rounds of 5 finalists each. Each Agora user has 1 vote to choose their favorite creation in each round. In the last round, the 5 most-voted creations of each round (top 5) are submitted to a popular vote. From this final votation, we get the award's winner.
What are the credits for?
The credits are used to participate in the awards with more than one creation without having to wait for the time limitations to be removed. They can be purchased by clicking on the “credits” icon in your profile.
