Alessandro from Liguria (Italy)

Ciao! I am Alessandro. Born and raised in Liguria and Valle D’Aosta (Italy) and now a Londoner for around 8 years.
Although I finally brought myself to buy a ‘proper professional camera a couple of years ago, I have always been fascinated by photography. In particular its ability to freeze reality and transform short-lived moments and feelings into timeless objects.
As a teenager and growing up, I was expressing my fascination by trying to capture every exciting moment in the (almost subconscious) attempt to prolong them. With time, I’ve learned to get away from mindless clicks and photo hoarding. This is possible because I’ve become more accepting of the fleeting nature of experiences and how hard it is to truly capture them.
I would say I am at the very early stages of my photography journey. I am still exploring and trying to develop a style that reflects me. I find Agora a very inspiring place, and somewhere that can help me to develop my passion and technique as a photographer, as well as a great platform to showcase my work.
I was nominated in the Top50 for the #BestOfTheWeek15. I took this picture during my trip to Sri Lanka: it is of a beautiful and iconic place called the Nine Arch Bridge in Ella. To avoid the crowds, I woke up very early in the morning and made my way from my hostel. The walk-in itself is stunning and as I was becoming immersed in my surroundings, I suddenly heard a train horn from a distance. I knew it could be a great shot so I made a run for it. I almost missed it but luckily managed to take a few shots of the passing train (this picture is actually my first shot).

Another favorite picture of mine was taken a few days earlier on that same train. The girl captured in the photo seemed like she was taking in the relaxed and positive Sinhalese atmosphere. On a fully packed train, she gave up her seat to a younger couple and just wandered around the train during her 7-hour journey instead.

Finally, a photo of myself. It is also the very first picture I took with my Sony a7. Most of my pictures are shot with Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8, Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8, Sony 50mm f/1.8.

My Agora account is @alessandro__8 (two underscores) and I can be contact via Instagram, also @alessandro__8.

Thanks,

Alessandro
